Alex Beattie is a London-based print and textile artist.
He studied Zoology at Oxford University, then an MA in Textile Design at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL.
His works on paper are transportative dreamscapes, built up from multiple layers of overlapping colour to produce an intensely vibrant image. They sit in a psychedelic alternative universe, drawing inspiration from everyone and everything: Rousseau to socialist poster art; Byzantine mosaics to videogames.
He works across both paper and textiles, at varying scales. He exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions in 2021 and 2022. His recent public work includes a large-scale tapestry installation in the crypt of Canterbury Cathedral, plus collaboration on the print design of Osman Yousefzada’s art installation, covering the Selfridges building in the Bullring, Birmingham.
